MOISTURE CONTENT – OVEN DRYING METHOD

Purpose of the test

This test is performed to determine the moisture content of paper, solid board or folding board using the oven drying method.

Procedure

100 g of testing material is provided for each Level. According to ISO 287 for lightweight papers, a smaller mass of at least 25 g testing material may be used for each measurement.

Open the package and immediately take out at least 25g testing material from the package and place it in an oven-dried at 105°C glass container with lid. The mass of the glass container should be known to 0.01g. Dry the testing material at a temperature of 105°C. When the testing material is considered to be completely dried, quickly close the container and allow the container to cool in a desiccator.

Weigh the container and the contents until the testing material has reached constant mass. It is reached when two consecutive weightings do not differ by more than 0,1% of the mass.

For both samples the moisture content is measured as double measurement.

Report 2 measures, their mean and standard deviation calculated to 3 significant figures, express the results in %.

ISO 287
Nr. of samples

100 g sample material per Level. According to ISO 287, for lightweight papers, a smaller mass of at least 25 g sample material may be used for each measurement.

Levels

Level 1: 4.8÷5.6 %

Level 2: 6.3÷7,3 %

Reporting

2 valid results in %, calculate the mean and standard deviation to 3 significant figures. Calculate the standard deviation as the absolute difference between the two measurements divided by √2.
